Pansori “Simcheongga”
Corea(National Intangible Cultural Heritage, Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity)
The main difference of this project regarding the traditional wanchang pansori (full pansori) is that it is performed by one only singer and three drummers. The main voice performs “Simcheongga” (a traditional pansori story), with new arrangements in order for it to be two hours long, while drummers perform music that is based on and expanded from the traditional pansori drumming technique. The four performers sometimes let the boundaries of their roles overlap and make extensive use of theatrical systems such as lighting and scenery. In addition to the traditional drums, the players also make selective use of traditional percussion and electronic instruments such as the electronic drum pad and keyboard, and various pitched percussion instruments, to add a new level of musical color.
