Dimitris Papaioannou
Performing artist | GreciaHe was born in Athens in 1964. From a very young age, he was recognized as a painter and comic book artist. Later, he migrated to performing arts such as directing, choreography, acting, set design, costumes, make-up and lighting. He was a student of the iconic Greek painter Yannis Tsarouchis. Afterward, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 1986, he founded the Edafos Dance Theatre, where he created original theatrical productions, hybrid pieces of physical theater, experimental dance and performing arts until 2002, when the company closed, leaving a deep-rooted mark on the Greek art scene. In 2004, he gained international recognition by creating the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games. Some of his most outstanding stage works are: Medea (1993), Nowhere (2009), Inside (2011), Primal Matter (2012), Still Life (2014), The Great Tamer (2017), Since She (2018), Ink (2020) and his most recent work Transverse Orientation (2021).
