Karin Beier
Conductor | AlemaniaBorn in 1965 in Cologne, Germany, she is the resident director at Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. She was a resident director at the Burgtheater of Viena for five years. In 2007, she took over as director of the Schauspiel Köln, which was voted by the critics of the theater magazine 'Theater Heute', Theater of the Year in 2010 and 2011. She has received numerous awards for her productions, such as The dirty, the ugly and the common in 2010 in the critics' poll of Theater Heute magazine, and The Work, In the Bus and A Fall in 2011 by the Die Deutsche Buhne magazine for best production. In September 2017, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, first class, for her outstanding work in theater. She has staged several productions, out of which the most renowned are: Ship of Dreams (2015-2016), invited to open the Berlin Theatertreffen; the German premiere of Submission (2016) which received much attention, both at a national and international level, and the opera The Nose by Dimitri Shostakovich, which opened the 2019-20 season of the Hamburg State Opera.
